Taxonomy
Calyptapis florissantensis was named by Cockerell (1906). Its type specimen is Mus. Comp. Zool. No. 2008, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant (MCZ Collection), which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in the Florissant Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Bombus florissantensis by Zeuner and Manning (1976); it was recombined as Bombus (Calyptapis) florissantensis by Engel and Wappler (2025).
