Taxonomy

Basinotopus was named by M'Coy (1849). Its type is Inachus lamarckii. It is the type genus of Basinotopidae.

It was assigned to Anomura by M'Coy (1849); to Dromiidae by Collins (2002); to Dynomenidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Basinotopidae by Schweitzer et al. (2012) and Beschin et al. (2012).
