Taxonomy
Iranophyllum splendens was named by Douglas (1936). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tapileh, which is in a Guadalupian carbonate limestone in Iran. It is the type species of Iranophyllum, Iranophyllum (Iranophyllum).

It was recombined as Iranophyllum (Iranophyllum) splendens by Minato and Kato (1965).
