Taxonomy
Sphenotus cataractes was named by Reed (1944). Its type specimen is GSI 17184 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Main waterfall, 1.75 miles NNE of Warcha Mandi, Salt Range, which is in a Capitanian marine shale in the Wargal Formation of Pakistan.
