Orthis impressa was named by Hall (1843) [Type last designated Orthis (Schizophoria) iowensis by Hall and Clarke, 1892].

It was recombined as Orthis (Schizophoria) impressa by Calvin (1897); it was recombined as Schizophoria (Schizophoria) impressa by Stigall Rode (2005).
