Lichas laxatus was named by McCoy (1846).

It was recombined as Platylichas laxatus by Warburg (1925), Warburg (1939) and Owen and Bruton (1980); it was recombined as Autoloxolichas laxatus by Thomas and Holloway (1988); it was recombined as Allolichas laxatus by Holloway and Thomas (2002).
