Taxonomy
Stauranderaster was named by Spencer (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm T Dani Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Oreaster coronatus. It is the type genus of Stauranderasteridae.

It was assigned to Stauranderasteridae by Spencer (1913) and Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Valvatida by Sepkoski (2002).
