Atelecrinidae was named by Bather (1899). It is extant. Its type is Atelecrinus.

It was assigned to Paracomatulacea by Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Comatulidia by Jagt (1999); and to Atelecrinoidea by Hess and Messing (2011).
