Taxonomy
Micropholis was named by Huxley (1859). It is not extant. Its type is Micropholis stowi. It is the type genus of Micropholidae.
It was assigned to Micropholidae by Watson (1919) and Haughton (1925); to Dissorophidae by Carroll (1988); to Temnospondyli by Maddin et al. (2012); and to Amphibamidae by Damiani and Rubidge (2003), Schoch and Rubidge (2005), Anderson et al. (2008) and Schoch (2013).
