Taxonomy
Karaurus was named by Ivachnenko (1978). It is not extant. Its type is Karaurus sharovi. It is the type genus of Karauridae.
It was assigned to Karauridae by Estes (1981), Nessov (1988), Carroll (1988), Shishkin (2000), Skutschas and Gubin (2012); and to Batrachia by Maddin et al. (2012).
