It was assigned to Pelomedusidae by Wood (1976), Carroll (1988); to Pelomedusoides by Sanchez-Villagra and Scheyer (2010); to Podocnemididae by Oliveira and Romano (2007), Riff et al. (2010), Gaffney et al. (2011), de la Fuente et al. (2014); and to Erymnochelyinae by Cadena et al. (2021).
