Taxonomy
Venericardia barbarensis was named by Stearns (1890) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; California]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cardita barbarensis by Grant and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Cyclocardia barbarensis by Woodring (1946) and Coan (1977); it was recombined as Cyclocardia (Cyclocardia) barbarensis by Moore (1992) and Coan et al. (2000); it was recombined as Hippocampocardia barbarensis by Pérez and Giachetti (2020), Hendy (2020) and Hendy (2021).
