Taxonomy
Vulpes riffautae was named by de Bonis et al. (2007). Its type specimen is Centre National d'Appui à la Recherche, N'Djamena, TM 32-04-78, a partial skull (two mandibular corpi), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Toros-Menalla (TM 32), which is in a Messinian terrestrial horizon in Chad.
