Taxonomy
Pterygotus hibernicus was named by Baily (1870). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kiltorkan Quarry, which is in a Famennian fluvial siltstone in the Kiltorcan Formation of Ireland.
It was recombined as Hibbertopterus hibernicus by Kjellesvig-Waering (1966) and Braddy et al. (2023).
