Rhizophyllum was named by Lindström (1866) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m D Emsi]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cystiphyllidae by Hill (1956); to Goniophyllidae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
