Bellerophon czekanowskii was named by Schmidt (1858) [Lectotype designated by Isakar & Ebbestsatd 2000.]. Its type specimen is IGT 38/GA 20, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Bucania czekanowskii by Koken (1889), Koken (1896), Koken (1897), Teichert (1932), Isakar and Ebbestad (2000), Wagner (2023).
