Stratigraphy
Geological group:Clinton Formation:Williamson Shale
Stratigraphic resolution:formation
Stratigraphy comments: Listed as Upper Llandovery, C6. Type locality; BA4/5 BA5 Monograptid-Strophochonetes community; in Eckert and Brett, 1989: BA5 Monograptid-"Chonetes" cornutus association. Sampled bed: Lower meter
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: poorly lithified "shale"
Lithology description: Dark gray to black (and rarely dark greenish gray), fissile to platy, laminated clay to slightly silty shales, with rare pyrite and sparse bioturbation, commonly interbedded with thin-bedded quartz arenites (siltstones and sandstones) and occasional carbonate concretions
Environment:deep subtidal shelf
Geology comments: Fossil layers generally associated with thin, sandy tempestites (thus, not life assemblages and with some winnowing). Generally reduced oxygen with occasional intervals of anoxia and normal oxygen levels
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,trace,replaced with pyrite
Degree of concentration:-single event
Size of fossils:macrofossils,mesofossils
Spatial orientation:life position
Articulated whole bodies:many
Size sorting:poor
Temporal resolution:snapshot
Spatial resolution:autochthonous
Collection methods and comments
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
