Crotalocrinites-Eucalyptocrinites Association of the Gower Formation (Silurian to of the United States)

Also known as Reef 817

Where: Rock Island County County, Illinois (41.5° N, 90.6° W: paleocoordinates 21.9° S, 55.6° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: LeClaire Member (Gower Formation), Silurian to Silurian (443.8 - 427.4 Ma)

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; lithified, graded, dolomitic wackestone

• SEP environmental call based on given description and same vol. page 807.
• Often very fossiliferous. The crinoid-dominated areas are mostly inclined-bedded, vuggy, porous, noncherty, crinoid-moldic dolowackestones, though occasionally dolopackstones-grainstones occur also... Sedimentary textures and fossil occurrences are identical to those seen in Racine mounds, but typically the fauna (e.g., brachiopods, corals, echinoderms) is much less diverse. Local graded bedding, debris wedges, and mound fissures packed with trilobites or nautiloids (forming very local trilobite-moldic and nautiloid-moldic dolowackestones-packstones) are common.
