H34D site (IMNH 2167) (Cretaceous to of the United States)

Also known as Highway 34 Dinosaur locality; Tincup Canyon

Where: Caribou County, Idaho (43.2° N, 111.1° W: paleocoordinates 43.5° N, 70.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Wayan Formation, Late/Upper Albian to Late/Upper Albian (105.3 - 93.5 Ma)

• Upper part of Wayan Fm

•Dating of detrital zircons from 120 m above the base of the formation and from the top of the formation has yielded a maximum age of 101.8 Ma (latest Albian) and a minimum age of 95.5 Ma (early Cenomanian; Krumenacker, 2010)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: crevasse splay; fine, gray, silty sandstone

• Semi-arid floodplain environment; channel lag or crevasse splay
• Gray (Munsell 6/1), fine, quartz-dominated sandstone (moderately poorly sorted with grains ranging from very fine lower to fine upper) with a silt and clay matrix

•"The fossiliferous horizon consists of a petroliferous fine-grained gray calcite-cemented sandstone with some caliche clasts. The fossil-bearing unit coarsens upward transitioning into sandstone with caliche and gypsum nodules."

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collected by Montana State University in 2003–2004, 2007

Collection methods: surface (in situ),
