Type specimens:
- Mosasaurus mokoroa: C.M. zfr 1, a partial skeleton (disarticulated skull and vertebrae). Its type locality is Cheviot, which is in a Haumurian marine horizon in the Conway Formation of New Zealand.
- Leiodon haumuriensis: Its type locality is Hamuri Bluff, which is in a Campanian basinal (siliciclastic) sandstone in the Conway Formation of New Zealand.
