Taxonomy
Atriculicoides was named by Remm (1976). It is not extant. Its type is Atriculicoides macrophthalmus. It is the type genus of Atriculicoidini.
It was synonymized subjectively with Protoculicoides by Szadziewski et al. (2016), Szadziewski (2018).
It was assigned to Ceratopogonini by Remm (1976); to Ceratopogonidae by Szadziewski and Schlüter (1992), Carpenter (1992); to Atriculicoidini by Szadziewski (1996), Szadziewski (2004); to Forcipomyiinae by Borkent and Wirth (1997), Borkent (2013); and to Atriculicoidinae by Borkent (2019), Borkent and Dominiak (2020).
It was synonymized subjectively with Protoculicoides by Szadziewski et al. (2016), Szadziewski (2018).
