Taxonomy
Homogalax was named by Hay (1899). Its type is Systemodon primaevus. It is the type genus of Homogalaxinae.
It was assigned to Tapiridae by Hay (1902); to Homogalaxinae by Peterson (1919); to Perissodactyla by Holbrook (1999); to Ancylopoda by Hooker and Dashzeveg (2004); to Isectolophidae by Hay (1899), Radinsky (1963), Carroll (1988), Prothero and Schoch (1989), Colbert and Schoch (1998), Holbrook et al. (2004) and Lucas and Kondrashov (2004); and to Tapiromorpha by Colbert (2005).
