Taxonomy
Dzungariotherium was named by Chiu (1973). Its type is Dzungariotherium orgosensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Paraceratherium by Prothero and Schoch (1989).

It was assigned to Hyracodontidae by Carroll (1988), Ye et al. (2003); to Indricotheriidae by Qiu et al. (2004); and to Paraceratheriinae by Qiu and Wang (2007).
