Taxonomy
Cardium philippi was named by Ihering (1897) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Miocene; Chile, Argentina.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Patagonicardium.

It was recombined as Patagonicardium philippii by Frassinetti and Covacevich (1999); it was recombined as Hedecardium (Iheringicardium) philippi by Schneider (2002).
