Taxonomy
Arsinoea was named by Simons (1992). Its type is Arsinoea kallimos. It is the type genus of Arsinoeidae. It was considered monophyletic by Kay and Williams (1994) and Simons et al. (2001).
It was assigned to Hominoidea by Simons (1992); to Qatraniinae by Kay and Williams (1994); to Anthropoidea by Gunnell and Miller (2001); to Arsinoeidae by Simons et al. (2001); and to Parapithecoidea by Seiffert et al. (2005).
