Frechastraea was named by Scrutton (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 174,680,1240]. Its type is Cyathophyllum pentagonum.
It was assigned to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Phillipsastreidae by Hill (1981), McLean (1994), Brownlaw and Jell (2008).
