Rocellaria was named by Blainville (1828). It is extant.

It was reranked as Gastrochaena (Rocellaria) by Freneix et al. (1988).

It was assigned to Gastrochaenidae by Bohm (1926); to Gastrochaena by Freneix et al. (1988); and to Rocellariidae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
