Stylocoenia sanctaorosiae was named by Altuna et al. (2007). Its type locality is Yebra de Basa, Bartonian Corals, Pamplona fm, Pyrenees, which is in a Bartonian reef, buildup or bioherm marl in the Pamplona Formation of Spain.
