Taxonomy
Flabellum merriami was named by Nomland (1916). It is not extant. Its type locality is UCMP 1817, Urruttia Canyon-Salt Creek, which is in a Ypresian deep-water shale in the Lodo Formation of California.
It was recombined as Trochocyathus merriami by Palmer (1923); it was recombined as Platytrochus merriami by Nomland (1916), Bentson (1943), Cairns (1997).
