Cardium (Clinocardium) mutuense was named by Nomura and Hatai (1936) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Japan.]. Its type specimen is SHM 8799, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Clinocardium mutuense by Kanno and Ogawa (1964); it was recombined as Ciliatocardium mutuense by Kafanov (2002).
