It was assigned to Anatinae by Howard (1966); to Mergini by Emslie (1992); to Oxyurinae by Wetmore (1956), Brodkorb (1964), Howard (1972), Zelenkov (2012), del Hoyo et al. (2014); and to Anatidae by Wetmore (1962), Alvarez (1977), Clements et al. (2017).
