Taxonomy
Tarphyphyllum besti was named by McLean and Pedder (1984). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Fairholme Reef Complex, Clearwater River, which is in a Frasnian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Cairn Formation of Canada. It is the type species of Tarphyphyllum.
