Taxonomy
Smithiphyllum meridianum was named by McLean and Pedder (1987). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Ancient Wall Reef, Noonday Peak, which is in a Frasnian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Southesk Formation of Canada.
