Taxonomy
Smithiphyllum cygnus was named by McLean and Pedder (1987). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Hay River near Grumbler Rapids, which is in a Frasnian perireef or subreef limestone in the Twin Falls Formation of Canada.
