Taxonomy
Stenopoceras was named by Hyatt (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. It is the type genus of Stenopoceratidae.

It was assigned to Grypoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Nautilida by Sepkoski (2002); to Domatoceratidae by Barskov et al. (2014); and to Stenopoceratidae by Korn (2025).
