Taxonomy
Plesiopithecus teras was named by Simons (1992). Its type specimen is CGM 42291, a mandible (right mandible with complete horizontal and articular process), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry L-41 (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian lacustrine mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt. It is the type species of Plesiopithecus.
