Taxonomy
Polycytella was named by Tillyard (1922). Its type is Polycytella triassica. It is the type genus of Polycytellidae.
It was assigned to Scytinopteridae by Tillyard (1922), Tillyard (1923); to Glosselytrodea by Carpenter (1992); to Glosselytridae by Rasnitsyn and Aristov (2013); and to Polycytellidae by Béthoux and Anderson (2021), Pérez-de la Fuente et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Scytinopteridae by Tillyard (1922), Tillyard (1923); to Glosselytrodea by Carpenter (1992); to Glosselytridae by Rasnitsyn and Aristov (2013); and to Polycytellidae by Béthoux and Anderson (2021), Pérez-de la Fuente et al. (2022).
