Taxonomy
Prorhyacophila was named by Riek (1955). It is not extant. Its type is Prorhyacophila colliveri.

It was synonymized subjectively with Mesotrichopteridium by Ansorge (2002).

It was assigned to Prorhyacophilidae by Riek (1955), Carpenter (1992), Sukatsheva and Aristov (2013), Sukatsheva and Sinitshenkova (2023).
