Taxonomy
Jabiru was named by Hellmayr (1906). It is extant. Its type is Ciconia mycteria.

It was assigned to Ciconiinae by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940); to Leptoptilini by Noriega and Cladera (2008); and to Ciconiidae by Howard (1972), Campbell (1979), Clements et al. (2017).
