Taxonomy
Atopocoenia kugleri was named by Wells (1974). Its type locality is Los Bagres, Isla Margarita, which is in an Oligocene shallow subtidal limestone in the Los Bagres Formation of Venezuela. It is the type species of Atopocoenia.
