Taxonomy
Diploria sarasotana was named by Weisbord (1974). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Warren Brothers Pit, Sarasota, which is in a Pliocene reef, buildup or bioherm limestone/sandstone in the Tamiami Formation of Florida.
