Bibiodes was named by Coquillett (1904). It is extant.

It was assigned to Bibionidae by James (1937), Carpenter (1992); to Bibiodina by Nel et al. (2019); and to Bibioninae by Skartveit (2009), Skartveit and Ansorge (2020), Skartveit and Wedmann (2021).
