Taxonomy
Diaphorus was named by Meigen (1824). It is extant. It is the type genus of Diaphorinae.

It was assigned to Dolichopodidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Diaphorinae by Aldrich (1905), Pollet et al. (2004).
