Undatoma was named by Rasnitsyn (1977). Its type is Undatoma dahurica. It is the type genus of Undatominae.
It was assigned to Xyelotomidae by Rasnitsyn (1977), Carpenter (1992), Taeger et al. (2010); and to Undatominae by Sun et al. (2024).
