Gigasiricidae was named by Rasnitsyn (1968). Its type is Gigasirex.

It was reranked as the subfamily Gigasiricinae by Rasnitsyn and Zhang (2004) and Taeger et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Symphyta by Carpenter (1992); and to Siricidae by Rasnitsyn and Zhang (2004) and Taeger et al. (2010).
