Paroryssus was named by Martynov (1925). It is not extant. Its type is Paroryssus extensus. It is the type genus of Paroryssidae.

It was assigned to Paroryssidae by Martynov (1925), Lin (1976), Carpenter (1992) and Taeger et al. (2010).
