Taxonomy
Mesoserphus was named by Kozlov (1968). Its type is Mesoserphus karatavicus. It is the type genus of Mesoserphidae, Mesoserphinae.
It was assigned to Mesoserphinae by Kozlov (1970), Shih et al. (2011); and to Mesoserphidae by Rasnitsyn (1986), Rasnitsyn (1986), Johnson (1992), Carpenter (1992), Li et al. (2016).
