Taxonomy
Tellina mathewsonii was named by Gabb (1864) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Lectotype is listed.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 4373, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Willimactra (Petromactra) mathewsonii by Saul (1973).
