Eupsammia clarendonensis was named by Wells (1934). Its type locality is Whitney Valley, Clarendon Parish [Yellow Limestone Gp], which is in a Lutetian shallow subtidal limestone in Jamaica.
It was recombined as Balanophyllia clarendonensis by Baron-Szabo (2008).
