Taxonomy

Platytrochus speciosus was named by Gabb and Horn (1860).

It was recombined as Trochocyathus speciosus by Vaughan (1902).

Synonyms

Trochocyathus epicharis was named by Wanner (1902). Its type locality is Bab-el Jasmund, Libyan Desert, which is in a Danian perireef or subreef limestone in Egypt.

It was recombined as Paratrochocyathus epicharis by Alloiteau (1958); it was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Tethocyathus kopetdagensis was named by Kuzmicheva (1987). Its type locality is Western Kopetdag Mountains, which is in a Danian marine horizon in the Chaaldzhin Formation of Turkmenistan.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Trochocyathus lemniscatus was named by Squires (1958). Its type locality is S146 Hampden Beach, which is in a Bortonian marine horizon in New Zealand.

It was recombined as Paratrochocyathus lemniscatus by Hassan and Salama (1970); it was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Protrochocyathus deniseptatus was named by Hassan and Salama (1970). Its type locality is Kharga Oasis, which is in a Danian shallow subtidal shale/chalk in the Dakhla Formation of Egypt.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Deltocyathus staszici was named by Rozkowska (1955). Its type locality is Boryszew, which is in a Danian marine sandstone in Poland.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Trochocyathus kroisbachensis was named by Traub (1938). Its type locality is Mt. Haunsberg, which is in a Paleocene coastal sandstone/marl in the Oiching Formation of Austria.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Trochocyathus mississippiensis was named by Wells (1933). It is not extant. Its type locality is USGS 6883 West Point, which is in a Campanian marine horizon in Mississippi.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trochocyathus speciosus by Baron-Szabo (2008).
Trochocyathus johannesi was named by Floris (1972). Its type locality is Danienrygge, Kangilia, Nugssuaq, West Greenland, which is in a Danian basin reef tuff/conglomerate in Greenland.
